Energy efficiency is the topic of conversation amongst a lot of home owners these days. Home buyers are more attracted to energy efficiency as well. It’s no wonder considering how much money you save with an energy efficient home. Replacing your old windows out for new, energy efficient windows is one way to start transitioning your home over. When choosing your new windows, there are a few things to consider: cost, style, material and installation.

You want to decide what type of window you’d like: single-pane, double-pane or triple-pane. You want to be sure that you choose an efficient window pane. Once you decide what type of window you’re going to use, there are a variety of window materials to choose from: wood, vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum or combination. The type you choose will be influenced by the function of the window, the style you’re going for, the energy efficiency and of course, your budget. Ease of maintenance might be another factor to consider. How easy will it be to keep your windows clean? The material you choose will help determine this.

When shopping for new windows, you want to look for two important labels: The Energy Star label and the National Fenestration Rating Council’s label. Both of these labels will help you understand how efficient the windows are. Windows must meet government- defined regulations and requirements in order to receive a green certification. The Energy Star label lets you know that you are purchasing a quality product. The National Fenestration Rating Council’s label will not only let you know how energy efficient the window is but it will let you know how the window will perform in extreme weather conditions. This is an important factor in the Midwest due to the varying conditions of our weather.

Window design is yet another aspect to consider when choosing window replacement options. Different window types have different functionality and style. Amongst the different types are; single-hung or double-hung, casement, sliding, hopper, awning, clerestory, rotating, arched, bow and bay. Consider your home’s architectural style when deciding on the window design type that’s best. As you can see, there are many things to consider when purchasing new windows. At Rusco, we will help you choose the best window type, material and design. We will make sure to assess your home and help you ensure that your home is as energy efficient as possible. We hope to hear from you soon!
